The main objective of Incropera's book is to understand and calculate how thermal energy and mass are transferred between systems. There are three fundamental modes of heat transfer: Conduction → heat transfer through a stationary medium. Convection → heat transfer between a surface and a moving fluid. Radiation → heat transfer by electromagnetic waves. The book then develops these concepts mathematically and applies them to engineering systems such as pipes, fins, heat exchangers, boilers, condensers, cooling systems, and thermal equipment.
