Afficher le Résumé

This volume contains the proceedings of the mrs symposium on materials for magneto-optic data storage, a field that was rapidly advancing during the late 1980s as rewritable optical disks emerged for computer and archival data storage. the book focuses on the materials science, thin-film technology, magnetic properties, optical performance, and device structures required for high-density magneto-optical (MO) recording systems. the proceedings examine how magnetic and optical phenomena can be combined to store information using laser-written magnetic domains and laser-based readout through the magneto-optic kerr effect. particular attention is given to rare-earth/transition-metal amorphous alloys, multilayer structures, protective coatings, substrates, and media reliability.
