The present study reports the work that has been done to put back in working condition an 1infrared spectrometer used to measure the temperature on the working profile of a gear tootnh. the main part of this work consisted in calibrating the black body reference source and the infrared spectrometer itself. to verify the calibration done, emissivity and working flank temperature measurements have been done with the apparatus. the results were then compared with previous. the report also describes a systematic set up that has been developed to install the spectrometer in the measuring position. such a procedure is necessary to assure the proper physical orientation of the spectrometer relative to - the gear tooth. the verification has been done at the time of the temperature and emissivity measurements. the results obtained permit to conclude that the spectrometer has been properly calibrated and that the proposed spectrometer orientation procedure is adequate.
