This textbook presents the fundamental theory and practical methods of aerodynamics, with particular emphasis on airfoils, wings, aircraft and rockets, compressible and supersonic flows, aerodynamic forces and moments, aerodynamic interference, boundary layers, heat transfer and rarefied-gas aerodynamics. the first volume develops the theoretical foundations: fluid kinematics and dynamics, shock waves, the method of characteristics, incompressible and compressible flow around airfoils and wings, supersonic flow, and unsteady aerodynamic characteristics. the second volume is devoted to methods of aerodynamic calculation. it treats supersonic flow around cones and slender bodies of revolution, wing-body and wing-empennage interference, aerodynamic drag, stability derivatives, boundary-layer friction, aerodynamic heating, and flows in rarefied gases.
