Afficher le Résumé

Basic Principles of Plate Theory provides an introductory treatment of the mechanics and mathematical theory of plates. The book develops the fundamental concepts needed to understand plate bending, beginning with vectors, matrices, statics, equilibrium and elementary beam theory. It then examines the statics and kinematics of plate bending, elastic plate theory, stress resultants, bending moments, governing equations and analytical solutions for circular and rectangular plates. The book also introduces finite-difference methods, plate stability, plastic plate theory, including applications to solid metal and reinforced-concrete plates, and the theory of optimal plates. A substantial appendix deals with the geometry of surfaces, including curvature, principal directions and fundamental forms, providing the geometrical basis required for plate theory.
