The book begins with the basic structure of power systems and the representation of their main components, including generators, transformers, transmission lines and loads. It then develops the mathematical tools required to study power-system operation. One of the most important topics is load flow analysis. Load flow determines the voltage magnitude and angle at different buses, as well as active and reactive power flows and network losses. Numerical methods such as Gauss-Seidel and Newton-Raphson are used to solve the nonlinear power-flow equations.
