The present investigation consists of studying the factors causing loss of prestress force in pretensioned concrete beams, and the variation of steel stress under a variety of loading conditions. information was required on the effects of steel and concrete characteristics on the loss of prestress, in an attempt to minimize the loss of prestress force this study also includes the comparison of experimental results with theoretical predictions . to obtaïin this, laboratory experimental work was undertaken to monitor stresses in prestressing steel in pretensioned beams before loading, and under static and sustained loads. also, a review of methods for estimating prestress losses was carried out . a computer program was written to assess the prestress losses predicted by the british standard method . owing to the importance ofprestress transfer in pretensioned beams, it was decided to carry out a further investigation on the transmission length and bond between steel and concrete .
