In this review the various theories of analysis of coastal structures are examined. The factors affecting this design such as waves, materials and problems of foundations are observed with various ways of predicting and calculating the forces to be applied to the designs. Various recommendations are given for the calculation of the forces on the structures, as well as the choice of the type of sea wWalis and jetties to apply with some recommendations to 'their protection. The main conclusion is that various uncertainties still exist in predicting wave-heights and analysing the breaking and broken wave forces, so many more full scale tests must be carried out to get the actual description of the forces.
